Please complete a brief survey to share your insight on area needs and potential routes to reduce the impacts of truck traffic on VT Route 22A in Downtown Vergennes. Transportation solutions being evaluated at this time include new roadways, improvements to existing roadways as well as the option that traffic flows do not change. Consider applying for an open position on the Vergennes City Council … or open positions on city boards, commissions, and committees. Help shape our city’s policies and keep our city moving forward. There are vacancies on several boards, commissions, and committees – and we need YOU!
- Vergennes City Council (1 vacancy). Send an email or letter of interest to Mayor Chris Bearor, mayor@vergennes.org, or Vergennes City Hall, PO Box 35, 120 Main Street, Vergennes, VT. 05491. All emails/letters of interest for the open city council position will be reviewed by the City Council at its Tuesday, August 8 meeting.
- Board of Auditors (1 vacancy). What do Auditors do? Auditors play a vital role in preserving the democratic nature of Vermont's local government by ensuring that local officials are accountable for their expenditures of the taxpayers' money.
- Board of Listers (1 vacancy) What do Listers do? The primary responsibility of the lister is to determine the fair market value of your property; all real property commonly known as real estate is assessed. Real property is defined as land and any permanent structures attached to it.
- Development Review Board (2 vacancies) What does the “DRB” do? Adjudicates appeals of acts or decisions made by the Zoning Administrator. Adjudicates appeals for variances from the provisions of the Zoning and Subdivision Regulations. Considers applications for conditional uses.
- Planning Commission (2 positions open) The Planning Commission's primary role, as its name implies, is to plan. A Planning Commission is a body of citizens that serve within local government, acting as an advisory group to the municipal governing body on issues and policies related to planning, land use regulation, and community development.
- Parks & Recreation Committee (2 vacancies) What does the committee do? It supports our Recreation Department in their goals and efforts to provide recreation and program opportunities.
