About Mayor of Vergennes Jeff Fritz
I am a native Hoosier from a small farming community in Northern Indiana and a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. After a brief stint in Austin, Texas, I moved to the Pacific Northwest, first Portland, Oregon, and finally suburban Seattle, Washington, where I worked in the banking industry and commercial real estate development. Soon after moving to Vergennes I joined the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes, as the current chairman of that board, I remain steadfast to the mission and work we embody. I am currently “retired.”
As a student of history, I have always had a particular interest in government. My enthusiasm and affection for my adopted home were the prime motivators for my decision to run for elected office. Municipal government is where “the rubber meets the road,” and I am proud to be a part of a dedicated team of fellow council members, and city staff, all of whom work very hard to make our Little City a very special place.
In 2019, the city council adopted a set of achievable and aspirational goals to guide our future course of action. Of these, I am deeply committed to three: resolution of the ongoing issue of stormwater overflow and modernization of our overall sewer system; amendments to the City Charter that are reflective of the desires of our residents; and, a long-term and effective plan to alleviate the demands on our Main Street made by the 900+ trucks which travel through our city each day by the construction of an alternate truck route - the Vergennes Economic Corridor. Each of the goals adopted by the city council are critical to our future prosperity.
