Notice of Public Office – Seats and Terms Available
CITY OF VERGENNES
The annual City Elections will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Nominating petitions are available at the City Clerk’s office for the following public offices:
- One Alderman for a one-year term;
- Three Aldermen for respective two-year terms;
- One Lister for a three-year term;
- One Auditor for a three-year term;
- One Commissioner to the Vergennes-Panton Water District Board of Directors for a three-year term;
- One Grand Juror for a one-year term;
- One Director to the Vergennes Union High School Board of Directors for a three-year term;
- One Director to the Vergennes Union Elementary School Board of Directors for a three-year term;
- One Union School Director to the proposed Addison Northwest School District for a two-year term;
- Two Union School Directors to the proposed Addison Northwest School District for respective three-year terms; and
- One Union School Director to the proposed Addison Northwest School District for a four-year term.
The deadline for filing petitions for local public office, signed by 1% of the legal voters (16 valid signatures), is Monday, January 25, 2016. Petitions for Union School Director to the proposed Addison Northwest School District must be filed no earlier than January 21, 2016 nor later than February 1, 2016.
The deadline for filing petitions for articles to be included on the City Warning and ballot, signed by 5% of the legal voters, is Tuesday, January 14, 2015. (80 signatures)
Residents of Vergennes who are not registered voters but wish to be on the City’s checklist must file an application with the City Clerk on or before Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 5:00 p.m.
