Vergennes Historical Society

October of 2012 saw the formation of a Vergennes Historical Society.   After many years of meeting informally to share stories and resources as well as provide materials for city events a need was felt to organize in order to more efficiently pool our resources and share information with the public.  So far work has been done to develop a set of bylaws and register with the State of Vermont as a non profit.   Next on the agenda is to pinpoint when meetings will be held and formulate a plan of action.   No doubt topics of study will include the French Canadian population in Vergennes, War of 1812, industry, Weeks School, and the railroad.

We are also looking for help in identifying individuals in old Vergennes photographs.   Recently Joseph Perron donated a collection of pictures and slides of Vergennes to the historical society.   Pictured below are 2 individuals we are hoping someone in Vergennes recognizes!    If you have information about these individuals or would like to participate in the work of the historical society, please contact Susan Ferland either by email(m_sferland@comcast.net) or phone(877-3426).
